My favorite candy is the Violet Crumble bar. It’s a delight that I discovered in the World Market here in town. For $1.09 each, I get to savor a mockolate-coated honeycomb candy bar. The Australians like their chocolate coating sweet and I like that too when it comes to candy bars. With chocolate bars, I prefer dark chocolate that has been properly tempered, but with candy bars… the lighter and sweeter it is, the better! The honeycomb-like candy bar crackles when I eat it. It is so sweet, but just short of being cloying. Here, it’s on Wiki- they have more information and they describe it better than I can.
I just love this candy bar! I find myself transported back to age 4, when my grandma would hand me a fresh honeycomb to eat as she cleaned the honey out. Our neighbors across the street, the Dixon’s, had a bee farm and they gave her gallons after gallons of honey because the bees visit her garden. It was an unsaid agreement. I remember being perched on the counter with my legs swinging over the edge munching on a crispy yet chewy honeycomb with sticky dribbles down my shirt. Hilarities ensued because sticky fingers made for difficult signing. I would sign “more” and my fingers would get stuck together and grandma would have to pry my fingers apart and wash my hands so I could talk again. It’s very much like a hearing person trying to talk around a jawbreaker. Ahhh… a good memory, those are rare in my case. Anyways…
I’m thinking about buying a whole box of them so that I can have a constant stock of this stuff. There’s nothing else like it that I’ve seen or tried.
So what is your favorite candy bar? (Not chocolate bar or chocolate candies, but a candy bar.)
Maybe I’ll add your favorites to my list of things to buy and try out on my next shopping trip.
